The Jell alternative for engineering coordination in Slack

Jell runs a configurable standup questionnaire and adds goals on its upper tier. It asks your team the questions and files the answers. Troopr does the work that comes after: the standup writes itself from real Jira and GitHub activity, threads sync to Jira both ways, and nothing changes in Jira until the person who owns it taps Confirm.

Free for 10 seats.    Every feature included, no trial clock.

Trusted by 600+ engineering teams worldwide

Jell and Troopr both end up posting a standup. The difference is what is behind it. Jell collects what people remember to type, on a schedule you configure. Troopr is built for one job: the Slack-and-Jira coordination workflow, running the issue lifecycle both ways in the channel, with a confirmation step before anything is written. Every feature, on every plan, including Free.

Two-way thread sync, comments and attachments in both directions

The standup drafts itself from real Jira and GitHub activity

Confirm before write: the owner taps Confirm, the change runs as them

Free forever for 10 seats, with nothing held back for a higher tier

Why teams choose Troopr for coordination

A questionnaire, or a view of the work

You can tune the questions endlessly and still get "same as yesterday" by week six. The fix is not better questions.

The standup that writes itself

Troopr drafts each person's update from their own Jira and GitHub activity, including what the diffs actually changed, and posts it to the channel. It asks someone directly only when it genuinely cannot tell what they are working on. Retros, planning poker, task check-ins and team mood run in the same app, on the same bill.

Two-way sync, not a filed answer

A collected standup is a second record of the truth sitting next to the board. Troopr makes the thread a working surface: replies become Jira comments, Jira comments come back, and files move both ways. A channel can be paired with a Jira project, and people without a Jira licence still take part.

Reports and nudges, built in

Burndown, velocity and any JQL you like, posted to the channel on a schedule with the action buttons attached. Stale and overdue issues get a nudge aimed at the one person who can move them. The board gets worked on a cadence, not just reported on each morning.

Confirmed writes, not guesses

Every Jira change Troopr proposes goes to whoever owns the work, gets revalidated against live Jira the moment they confirm, and runs under their own login. If it stopped being true while it sat there, it says so instead of writing. That is what keeps a board worth trusting.

Jell capabilities verified against jell.com, the Jell pricing page and the Standups by Jell Slack Marketplace listing, 7 October 2026. "Not documented" means Jell's own materials do not describe the capability; it is not a claim the behaviour is impossible, and we will change any row Jell documents. Troopr capabilities per Troopr product documentation.

On the report

Collected, or formed

Both tools post a standup to a channel. The question is where the content came from.

JELL

Knows what people typed

This is where Jell is strong: you control exactly what gets asked, in text, list, multiple choice or number form, on any schedule you like, and the answers come back filed in one place. What it knows is what each person remembered to say, filtered through how much time they felt like spending. A blocker nobody mentioned is not in the report, and a ticket that quietly stopped moving never appears at all.

Troopr AI

Knows what actually changed

Troopr forms its own view from each person's Jira, GitHub and Slack activity, writes the standup from it, and proposes the Jira changes that view implies. It knows what moved since yesterday, which claims the data supports or contradicts, and what is genuinely new rather than already tracked. Each proposal is typed, routed to the owner, revalidated at the moment they confirm, and written under their own login.

Security & privacy

Built to clear your security review

The privacy posture is a precondition of the product, not a later add-on. It's what makes an AI-native model safe to put in front of your team and your auditors.

  • No training on customer data. Your work never trains a model.
  • No storage of raw messages. Troopr derives and persists a structured set of facts about how your team works, not the raw firehose.
  • Clear scope. Team channels, connected work tools, and a person's own shared activity. Troopr does not read other people's private DMs.
  • OAuth and Jira permissions. Troopr authenticates via OAuth and never bypasses your Jira project, issue, or field permissions.
Looking for employee or customer support automation? That's a different job, and a different product.

FAQ

Troopr vs Jell, answered

Is Troopr a replacement for Jell?

For engineering teams on Jira, yes, and it is a different operating model rather than a cheaper clone. Jell asks each person what they did and files the answers. Troopr reads what they did, writes the update, and proposes the ticket changes that follow for the owner to confirm. If the thing your team loses time to is getting people to fill in a form, better questions will not fix it.

How much does Jell cost, and is there a free plan?

As of 7 October 2026, Essentials is $4 per user per month billed annually or $5 monthly, Advanced is $8 annually or $10 monthly and is where goals and OKRs sit, and Enterprise is custom. There is a 14-day trial and no free plan. Troopr is free for 10 seats permanently, with every feature included and no credit card.

Does Troopr track OKRs?

No. If company-wide goal tracking in the same tool is the deciding factor, Jell's Advanced tier covers it and this is the honest place to say so. Troopr spends the product on the engineering coordination job instead: the standup, the ceremonies, the Jira work and the follow-up that keeps the board true.

What does switching actually involve?

Sign up with email or Google, point Troopr at a channel or a Jira project, and turn on the standup. Nothing has to be migrated. Troopr builds its view from the activity already sitting in Jira, GitHub and your channels, and a one-time backfill of recent history means the first report is grounded rather than empty, so it reads like Troopr has been with the team for weeks.

Run the coordination, keep the board accurate

Stop asking people to type what the tools already know. Add the two-way sync, custom-field updates, reports, nudges and the self-writing standup that get the work done in Slack and MS Teams. See it on your team in minutes.
