The Parabol alternative that runs the ceremony where the work already is
Parabol is a well-made meeting app. You leave Slack, run the retro or the poker round in Parabol, and push the outcome to Jira when it ends. Troopr does the work that happens between meetings: the standup writes itself from real Jira and GitHub activity, threads sync to Jira both ways, and nothing changes in Jira until the person who owns it taps Confirm.
Free for 10 seats. Every feature included, no trial clock.
Trusted by 600+ engineering teams worldwide
Parabol and Troopr overlap on the ceremonies and diverge on everything around them. Parabol is a destination: the team goes there, runs a structured meeting, and the result lands in Jira at the end. Troopr is built for one job, the Slack-and-Jira coordination workflow, running the issue lifecycle both ways in the channel with a confirmation step before anything is written. Every feature, on every plan, including Free.
Two-way thread sync, comments and attachments in both directions
The standup drafts itself from real Jira and GitHub activity
Confirm before write: the owner taps Confirm, the change runs as them
Free forever for 10 seats, with nothing held back for a higher tier
A meeting app, or a coordination layer
Parabol makes the hour in the meeting better. Troopr works the other 39 hours of the week.
The standup that writes itself
Troopr drafts each person's update from their own Jira and GitHub activity, including what the diffs actually changed, and posts it to the channel. It asks someone directly only when it genuinely cannot tell what they are working on. Nobody opens a second app, and nobody types a status from memory.
The ceremony runs where the team already is
Retrospectives, planning poker, task check-ins and team mood run in Slack and Microsoft Teams, at each person's own local time. Action items become Jira issues with the created key shown on the item, and the poker estimate writes back to the issue along with any other field you set.
Reports and nudges, built in
Burndown, velocity and any JQL you like, posted to the channel on a schedule with the action buttons attached. Stale and overdue issues get a nudge aimed at the one person who can move them. The board gets worked on a cadence, not just reviewed at the end of the sprint.
Confirmed writes, not an end-of-meeting export
Every Jira change Troopr proposes goes to whoever owns the work, gets revalidated against live Jira the moment they confirm, and runs under their own login. It happens the day the work happens, not when the next ceremony comes round.

Parabol capabilities verified against parabol.co/pricing and Parabol's published plan comparison, 7 October 2026. "Not documented" means Parabol's own materials do not describe the capability; it is not a claim the behaviour is impossible, and we will change any row Parabol documents. A better room, or better material
Everyone selling a Parabol alternative is offering you a nicer room to hold the meeting in. That is rarely what makes a retro thin.
A very good room
This is where Parabol is strong, and it is not close. Structured phases, multiplayer grouping, anonymous reflections, 40-plus templates, icebreakers, and an open-source codebase you can host yourself. If what your retros lack is facilitation craft, Parabol fixes that properly, and its free tier is genuinely generous for two teams.
The material the room is missing
A retro is thin when nobody can remember what actually happened over two weeks. Troopr holds the team's history and live Jira and GitHub state, so the ceremony starts from what shipped, what stalled and what got reopened, rather than from what people recall on a Thursday afternoon. Action items become Jira issues, and the follow-up gets chased by a nudge rather than by you.
What it looks like at scale
86%
of weekly status-meeting time eliminated
Snowflake's engineering teams run async Check-ins in Slack with Jira context compiled into the report, instead of context-switching to a status call.

67%
less time finding and updating Jira issues
Netflix runs distributed engineering on hosted Jira. Their internal security team cleared Troopr before rollout, which is usually the longest part of any adoption.

The privacy posture is a precondition of the product, not a later add-on. It's what makes an AI-native model safe to put in front of your team and your auditors.
- No training on customer data. Your work never trains a model.
- No storage of raw messages. Troopr derives and persists a structured set of facts about how your team works, not the raw firehose.
- Clear scope. Team channels, connected work tools, and a person's own shared activity. Troopr does not read other people's private DMs.
- OAuth and Jira permissions. Troopr authenticates via OAuth and never bypasses your Jira project, issue, or field permissions.
Troopr vs Parabol, answered
For engineering teams on Jira and Slack, yes, and it is a different shape rather than a cheaper clone. Parabol is a meeting destination with excellent facilitation. Troopr runs the ceremonies inside the chat the team is already in, writes the standup from real activity, and keeps the board true between meetings. If what your team lacks is retro craft, Parabol is the better buy. If what it lacks is a board anyone trusts, that is the strip Troopr owns.
Parabol's Starter plan is free forever for up to two teams, with up to ten meetings a month, unlimited users, thirty days of history and two custom templates. The meeting cap is the part worth checking against your cadence: a daily standup uses the whole monthly allowance in two working weeks. Troopr's free plan is 10 seats with unlimited check-ins and every feature included.
As of 7 October 2026, the Team plan is $8 per active user per month, billed monthly or annually, and Parabol bills only users who took part in a meeting that cycle. Enterprise is custom and adds SAML SSO, SCIM, an org admin role, an uptime SLA, Jira Data Center and optional on-prem hosting. Troopr is $6 per seat per month billed annually, with everything included.
Plenty of teams do. Keep Parabol for the quarterly retro if the team loves it, and let Troopr run the daily standup, the Jira work and the follow-up. They do not fight over anything, and Troopr's free tier costs nothing to find out.
Run the coordination, keep the board accurate
Keep the ceremonies you like, and add the two-way sync, the scheduled reports, the nudges and the standup that writes itself from what actually shipped. In Slack and MS Teams. See it on your team in minutes.
