The Range alternative that writes the check-in instead of prompting it

Range pulls your assigned tickets and recent pull requests into the check-in so you have something to paste. Someone still writes it. Troopr forms its own view of the team from that same activity, writes each update itself, and proposes the Jira changes the owner confirms in one tap.

Free for 10 seats, standups included.  No credit card, no annual commitment.

Trusted by 600+ engineering teams worldwide

Range and Troopr agree on the premise: the daily standup meeting is the wrong tool for a distributed team. They part company on what replaces it. Range gives each person a better place to write their update, with their activity surfaced alongside it. Troopr is built for one job, the Slack-and-Jira coordination workflow, running the issue lifecycle both ways in the channel with a confirmation step before anything is written. Every feature, on every plan, including Free.

Why teams choose Troopr for coordination

Surfacing your work, or doing the work

Range's own integration list is honest about what it does. Jira: share tickets assigned to you. GitHub: share PRs and issues. The signal arrives next to the box you type in.

The standup that writes itself

Troopr reads the same signal and goes one step further: it drafts each person's update from their own Jira and GitHub activity, including what the diffs actually changed, and posts it to the channel. It asks someone directly only when it genuinely cannot tell what they are working on. Nobody writes a status, and nobody pastes a ticket list.

The ceremonies, all five of them

Automated standup, task check-in, retrospective, planning poker and team mood run on every plan including Free, at each person's own local time. Retro action items become Jira issues with the created key on the item, and the poker estimate writes back to the issue.

The report knows what contradicts what

Troopr holds the team's history and live Jira and GitHub state, so the report says what actually changed since the last standup, which claims the data supports or contradicts, and what is genuinely new rather than already tracked. A ticket marked done with an open pull request shows up as a contradiction.

Confirmed writes, not a feed

Every Jira change Troopr proposes goes to whoever owns the work, gets revalidated against live Jira the moment they confirm, and runs under their own login. A check-in feed leaves the board exactly where it was; this is the part that moves it.

Range capabilities and pricing verified against range.co/pricing and Range's published plan comparison, 7 October 2026. "Not documented" means Range's own materials do not describe the capability; it is not a claim the behaviour is impossible, and we will change any row Range documents. On the ceremony

Context beside the box, or the update already written

Both read your Jira and your GitHub. The difference is what each one does with it.

RANGE

Context beside the box

This is a real improvement on a blank prompt, and Range does it well. Your assigned tickets, your recent pull requests, the docs you touched and the incidents you handled all appear next to the check-in, so writing it takes a minute rather than five. Add mood sharing, goals, meeting agendas and a team directory and you have a tidy operating home for a distributed team.

Troopr AI

The update already written

Troopr takes the same signal and produces the update, rather than producing a better prompt. It reads what the diffs actually changed, so a vague commit message does not hide real work, and it only asks when it genuinely cannot tell. Then it goes further than a feed can: the standup can move the ticket, and the proposal lands with whoever owns it.

Security & privacy

Built to clear your security review

The privacy posture is a precondition of the product, not a later add-on. It's what makes an AI-native model safe to put in front of your team and your auditors.

  • No training on customer data. Your work never trains a model.
  • No storage of raw messages. Troopr derives and persists a structured set of facts about how your team works, not the raw firehose.
  • Clear scope. Team channels, connected work tools, and a person's own shared activity. Troopr does not read other people's private DMs.
  • OAuth and Jira permissions. Troopr authenticates via OAuth and never bypasses your Jira project, issue, or field permissions.

FAQ

Troopr vs Range, answered

Does Range not already read my Jira and GitHub?

It does, and that is the right instinct. Range's own integration list describes it: Jira shares the tickets assigned to you, GitHub shares your PRs and issues. The activity is surfaced so the person writing the check-in has something to work from. Troopr takes the same signal and writes the update, then proposes the ticket changes that follow for the owner to confirm.

Is Troopr a replacement for Range?

For the standup and the Jira work around it, yes. For goals, OKRs, meeting agendas and the team directory, no, and Range is built for those. The question is which half of Range your team actually uses. If it is the check-in, Troopr does that job differently and does more with it. If it is the goals product, keep Range.

How much does Range cost?

As of 7 October 2026, Range is free for 12 users with a limit of 2 teams, 3 goals and 30 days of check-in history. Pro is $8 per team member, month to month, and lifts those limits. Enterprise is custom and is where Okta and OneLogin SSO sit. Troopr is $6 per seat per month billed annually, with everything included and only people who take action billed.

What does switching actually involve?

Sign up with email or Google, point Troopr at a channel or a Jira project, and turn on the standup. Nothing has to be migrated. Troopr builds its view from the activity already sitting in Jira, GitHub and your channels, and a one-time backfill of recent history means the first report is grounded rather than empty. Some teams keep Range for goals and the team directory while Troopr runs the standup and the Jira work.

Run the coordination, keep the board accurate

Stop giving people a better place to type what the tools already know. Add the two-way sync, the scheduled reports, the nudges and the standup that writes itself from what actually shipped. In Slack and MS Teams. See it on your team in minutes.
